The Start (by Caleb)

It all started when we got into the RV. I was excited, sad, and mad all at the same time.

Excited because we were living in an RV, and that was pretty cool, and we were going to be driving around the country seeing stuff while other kids were stuck home because of COVID-19!

Sad because we were leaving everything I've loved about North Carolina: female, our duck; the other ducks; the library; Village park; but most importantly, friends. Now I was just mad. I don't know if you'd understand why, but I felt like the new owners had just taken everything out of my world, poof just like that, stolen the ducks and gotten away with it.

All of these thoughts were swirling through my head as we got in the RV, pulled in the slides and left. I had known goodbyes before, but it was say bye, wait a week, and then hello again. But this time it wasn't like that.
