Coastal Georgia RV Resort (by Asher)

At Coastal Georgia we had a site on the lake. Behind all the sites on the water there was a strip of grass with some benches that anyone could walk on.

In the lake behind our site there were reeds where we saw some ducks. There was also a small alligator in the lake too. The neighbors named him Chompers, and he was about four feet long.

One morning I went out on the dock to see if I could see anything. There was a bird on the other side sitting on a branch so I ran back to get the binoculars. I looked and it was an anhinga with his wings stretched out who was drying them off.

Anhinga through the binoculars

Every day I could that week, I would go out in the morning with the binoculars and watch the anhinga. Sometimes he wouldn't be on the other side of the lake, though. The first time he did that I went out and was disappointed because I didn’t see him. Then I saw that he was on the dock itself!

There were some kids in an RV that we went to the pool with. But most of our time was out of the pool because it wasn’t heated.

We went on some field trips and there was a bridge called the Sidney Lanier Bridge that we crossed almost every time.

On one field trip we went to a trail, and on the trail Jordan rescued a bird that was stuck in a shelter.

In the morning we woke up at one o'clock, got in the car, and drove about three hours to Florida to see the SpaceX Crew 2 launch. We parked, then claimed a spot on a bridge with a direct view of the launchpad about 12 miles away. At 5:49:02 the rocket took off and I got to see it through the binoculars! It was really bright and it lit up the whole sky. As it went up we could hear it.

We went to a Bagel 13 restaurant for breakfast. Then we did a wildlife drive and saw roseate spoonbills digging in the mud.

Then we went to St. Augustine. Across from the parking garage there was a big wooden playground. We met some kids and played on the playground. Dad went and got us barbecue for dinner and then we walked around. We walked around a fort and looked at it (the inside was closed.) then went down the “touristy street.”

Those were the interesting facts. We didn’t do much after that. Except for going to Jekyll island, we just stayed at Coastal Georgia.

  1. Good job Asher! Nana and I would have loved looking for birds and gators on the lake with you. We've seen a lot of Anhingas in FL over the years. It's always fun to watch them spread their wings out to bask in the sun. I'm not sure I would have enjoyed getting up at 1:00 in the morning to go see the space launch, but it sounds like it was an amazing thing to watch. Nana and I once got to see a NASA launch from Cape Canaveral from the beach in Coco Beach, FL. It was exactly as you described the SpaceX launch! Nana and I both love reading the Johns Trippin' blog so keep posting! Gramps
