Indian Mound Fish Camp (by Asher)

I really liked Indian Mound. Our site had a little river behind it with an alligator in it.

The store had a dock behind it that we did homeschool on a few times. We brought our nets and we caught crabs, hermit crabs, and more!

There were two people living in their RV by the dock who were very nice and they let us have six hermit crabs. Caleb, Jordan, and I each got two. Jordan named one of hers "Barnacle," because he had barnacles growing on his back.

I really liked my two, which I named "Joshua" and "Jacob." Joshua was smaller than Jacob. I really liked that they came out quickly and didn't just stay in their shells. To me they were very cute when they peeked out at you. That night when we were playing with them we noticed that there were only five crabs. We checked outside and sitting on the picnic table was the other hermit crab. He snapped back into his shell when he saw us.

Mom rented a canoe and Caleb, Jordan, and I paddled around the river. We stopped at a little beach and we looked around. We found some hermit crabs, and Caleb spotted a stingray! Dad was waiting for us when we got back, and after we pulled the canoe out we went to the dock to watch the SpaceX satellite launch. It was about 26 miles away so we couldn't hear it, but the fire was really bright.

After the launch we had to let Joshua and Jacob go, which I was sad about. At the dock we caught other crabs. There was one blue crab that was big, and if you put your finger over him he would snap his claws together above him. If his claws were out of the water then you could hear them come together.

Another crab was big and purple. If you put your finger above him he would open his claws and raise them up to protect himself. We called him "King."

We caught another type of crab called a Mangrove Tree Crab. This small and purplish crab looked different from other crabs with designs on its back. They didn't pinch and would hang on to your arm.

When we left Indian Mound we went to the Kennedy Space Center on the way to our next site. We had to stand in line for a while but we finally got our tickets and got in. We went to a 3D IMAX movie, and I think Caleb's and my favorite part was the 3D countdown at the beginning of the movie.

Afterwards we went to Planet Play, a giant playground with everything space or planet related. Then we went to the Cosmic Café to have lunch.

We decided to go to the Atlantis space shuttle building next. We walked under a life-size model of the fuel tanks on a space shuttle and into the building. After we watched an intro video, we walked into a giant room. There was lots of stuff on Atlantis and the other space shuttles like a fun slide imitating landing on earth and in the middle of the room the actual Atlantis shuttle was raised up.

We went on a space shuttle simulation that tilted and shook a lot. After the simulation it was closing time, but on the way out we walked through the rocket garden, a space with a lot of real rockets in it.
