Indiana Dunes National Park
I remember going to Indiana Dunes as a kid, well before it was a national park. My memories are good, but they had me wondering what qualified the dunes to be elevated to national park status. After returning, I'm still not sure I can answer the question.
Don't get me wrong, I love Lake Michigan, and the coastline is beautiful. I'm just not sure it's worth of national park status, that's all.
We didn't have much time, so we did a short hike and swam a bit. It was so nice to be back in fresh water after years in the southeast swimming in the ocean! The kids climbed up a dune and ran back down a bunch of times. They realized how hard it is to climb sand!
The kids just love sand and water, so whether or not the park is worthy of a national park designation, I think they approved, and that makes it worth it.
