Our Wyoming Life
Interesting enough, right next to this place was the mail forwarding service where we now have an address in South Dakota. Wild! It was right next door! This is where Michael got information to find out where to get our plates. $5000 later we had our plates for our van, truck and RV. It was easy, yet very expensive to "live here."
After we became official, we celebrated by going to Armadillo Ice Cream so that we could get a state food, Indian tacos, which are tacos on fried bread. Since they were made of flour I tried a different state food in ice cream form - huckleberry. Delicious!
We got that done in a few hours and so it was time to move on to Gillette, Wyoming where you could see the horizon all around! At dusk, we arrived at our Harvest Host, called Our Wyoming Life. Our spot was right next to some cows and horses.
In the morning, we went out for a really neat tour of the ranch. The kids loved feeding the baby calf a big bottle and baby goats milk bottles too! We were also introduced to some big fat pigs. Caleb was able to open one of the doors to the 2 chicken coops filled with a cornucopia of chickens, ducks and geese of different varieties. They even had had some Toulouse geese! We ended our tour with lots of farm fresh meat and vegetables. Last but not least, we were able to feed the two horses by our RV. Boy, I love their lips!
During our tour, we were given the history of the ranch. The owners used to live in Boston as radio hosts with zero kids. Now they live on a ranch with 3 kids and have a very successful YouTube channel. Netflix is even making a documentary about them. They love to educate people about what is happening in America with the ranches. There are four major companies, including Tyson, that are buying up farms, letting the rancher stay on the farm and then having them run it the way that that particular company wants it done. In addition to this right now there is a drought. The ranchers will have to spend way too much money to keep the cows alive. The meat processing companies there are booked until 2022 and so they will have to sell many of their cows this year. Our Wyoming Life is doing just fine because of their side gigs.
We packed up and headed out after we were able to dump and fill up our water. I LOVE our Harvest Hosts!
