Oliver Lee Memorial State Park (by Caleb)

The Ultimate Adventures of the Johns Family at Oliver Lee Memorial State Park

Poem by Caleb

(Story below)

Up the land to Oliver Lee
Driving up in our RV
Just desert in sight not one tree
We set up at a Campsite quite hastily
For it was getting dark and hard to see
then we went to sleep nice and tight
and slept slept slept to sleep out the night

The next day we hiked to a spring
It had a lot of bees (Asher got a sting)
And I don't remember much else of that that date
Other then we went to bed late
We went to sleep nice and tight
And slept slept slept to sleep out the night

Back at Carlsbad KOA
We met a kid named Max so today
He came here and with him we played
And for a few days he stayed
And when he came we went on a trail
It was a perfect day no rain or hail
We hiked to a creek then a grotto
With cattail, ferns, and ocotillo
Along with the stream were three waterfalls
And the ferns were pretty and hanging off walls

There in the stream we made a dam
We made it out of mud and rock and sand
But later we left to White Sands
Which is a giant white sandy land
And if you pick up the sand
It is very soft in your hand
Then we went home and slept nice and tight
And slept slept slept to sleep out the night

The next day we toured Oliver Lee's cabin
He had a Ranch to keep his cows in
And a medium house with a lot of doors
A lot of rooms with dirt floors
And there were his wife and kids to help with chores
Then we went to the library
I wanted to get away and was happy and merry
Then we went to sleep nice and tight
And slept slept slept to sleep out the night

The next day we went with Max back to the stream
Then rebuilt our dam as a team
Later with Max we went to a library
And there was an annoying little kid named Mary
who was running around
and making loud sounds
also at the library there's turtles and hissing cockroaches
that hiss if someone approaches
then went back and had dinner
And went to bed nice and tight
and slept slept slept to sleep out the night

The next day we mostly did school
But went to a night sky program which was cool
then we went to a desert garden and played hide and seek
and when you're in the dark you can't peek
it was hard to do without the light
and trying not to trip over cacti without sight
then we went to sleep nice and tight
and slept slept slept to sleep out the night

The last day we went to White Sands with dad
we sledded down the dunes the day wasn't bad
we also had a sand war and we all made bases
it was fun unless someone threw sand chunks in peoples faces
then later we went back home and slept tight
and slept slept slept to sleep out the night

Then we packed up and drove away
Driving driving to Las Cruces KOA

I have noticed that the poem might be confusing, and it is very unspecific of our journey
to you reader, so I will give you a brief writing of our Journey through Oliver Lee.

It started when we arrived. We set up and before it got dark drove to a playground. We played there a bit
then after it got dark went to Walmart to get groceries for our stay.

The next day we hiked on a nature trail that went to a pretty spring. It was almost out of water (yes, Asher got stung).

The next day Max came we hiked down a nature trail to a grotto which is a lush place with water going through. The three waterfalls were just three thin steep ramps of rock water ran down. We went to the dam one more time later in the week with Max and broke it. A lot of water rushed through.

Two days later we went to White Sands with dad and sledded and built sand forts and had sand fights with sand chunks that had been stuck together by the sand getting wet and the water evaporating. Also the sand looked like snow.
