Palm Springs KOA

Palm Springs is in the desert and for some reason has way more golf courses then any reasonable city should have.

It's also very windy. There were hundreds of wind turbines in the Coachella Valley.

Lots and lots of wind turbines

We stayed in Palm Springs for a month. Our campsite had a pool, three mineral hot spring tubs, Pickleball courts, a climbing wall, mini golf and a free train ride. While on the train, Caleb found out that there was a bike track here! We went there so much.

There was a good library close by.

One day we bought unlimited climbing wall passes and had fun.

One day we went on a five mile hike up a mountain that was a KOA Activity. We could see the campground from the top of the mountain.

When we went to Joshua Tree NP, we went to a ranger talk. We learned that Joshua trees aren't actually trees but a kind of yucca. The ranger said that "Joshua Shrub-like National Park" didn't sound as good. We also learned that birds with too many lizards will impale them on pointy Joshua Tree leaves for later.

Then we went to an overlook that was very windy and very cold. We exited the park through the south entrance but not before stopping at the Cholla (Pronounced Choy-a) Cactus Garden. There were hundreds of Cholla plants there.

Once we tried to play pickleball when it was super windy. If you were on one side, you'd have to hit the ball really hard. If you were on the other you'd only have to tap.

We drove two hours to Anaheim, CA to meet some friends who were visiting Disneyland. After having lunch at a restaurant, we all drove to the coast. There were tide pools with anemones and a ton of hermit crabs. There were also some sandpipers running around. Then we went to their hotel and played in the big pool and hot tub. We all got dinner at the hotel pizza restaurant.

We went back to Joshua Tree NP. We did a trail called Hidden Valley Trail and there were a lot of climbable rocks.

One rock looked like a cow.

Then we did another trail to Arch Rock. Caleb and I climbed up to some high rocks.

On the way back I stopped at Heart Rock.
