Ventura Ranch KOA (by Jordan)

It was a great RV park. I met a girl named Luci who taught me how to do a front handspring on a jump pillow. I went there almost every day. All you have to do is run, jump, flip onto your hands, push off, and land on your feet.


There were also these very annoying peacocks, who, right before bed, in the morning, and whenever a vehicle passed by they would yell. They sounded like they were saying, ''OW, OW, OW!"

For some reason the peacocks liked the rabbits!

"A nice place to put my long feathers!"

"Hey, we have to look for food somewhere, because you guys aren't giving us any!" 

"I own this place, ya humans!"


We went to Channel Islands NP before we got our Jeep, so we had to go in our humongous RV. It was my favorite NP because we saw dolphins beside our boat.






We also saw sea lions and cute island foxes. If you did not watch your stuff, the foxes would take it. We saw a fox digging open a backpack. Instead of bear boxes in a campground, they have fox boxes. Someone left their fox box open. I saw the fox when it was in the box and I called to the people, but the sneaky fox had already taken a mask. The women that owned it ran after the fox, but it was no use, the fox had already taken the mask and it was gone forever.

We also went on a kayak trip. But dad and I only went half the time because our butts were sore.

We used kelp as an anchor to hold us in place. 

We went to a beach by the National Park's Visitor Center where we caught several crabs and hermit crabs. We played in the water a bit and we built a big sand wall to stop water from coming into Caleb's and my hole. 






We went to another beach called Surfer's Point where we played with sand even more. We caught some water bugs. There were lots of surfers there that stood up for a long time on their boards. 





The thing in my hand is a water bug.




One Sunday morning we got our Jeep. We had to wait 139 days to get it. The floors were nice and clean until our shoes got involved. I love our new Jeep!

We met a nice family at our campground. They went to Las Vegas while we took care of their cat. We each got 8 dollars for our pay. Our friends were Matt, Christy, Alexandra (Alex for short), Catherine (Cate for short) and Carter. Matt and Christy are the parents. Alex is 14, Cate is 12, and Carter is 5, almost 6, and he looked like a small version of Caleb. Their cat, Beckett, is two. I enjoyed playing The Fairy Game (a board game) with Carter. I liked Beckett head-bumping me. We did not play with Alex much. It was fun playing with Cate on the jump pad.

We also saw an aviary with lots of pretty birds in it.    





We caught a mouse that was in our RV. Of course I wanted to keep it but of course Mom, Dad, Asher, and Caleb, especially Caleb, would not allow that.    

It may not look cute to you but it was cute to me.

    Good blog Jordan. You make it sound so easy to do a front handspring on a jump pillow, but I'm guessing it's a little harder than that in reality. You guys really are starting to see a lot of wildlife in California. I love the foxes, sea bugs and sea anemones you saw on Channel Island. Those foxes sound really sneaky, but they sure are cute.

As we traveled the country, we tried to experience local culture. We didn't have much time in each location, so we thought that one of the best ways to do this quickly was to partake of local foods. Therefore, in addition to our National Park theme , we also had a "local food" theme. As we hit each state, we ate a food famous in that state. Just an example; we didn't go off of this map We quickly came to realize that this is a very subjective endeavor. Before we started, I ignorantly assumed that each state would have one or two "famous" foods, making the selection process easy. Not true. My Family's House (by Jordan)

It all started out with our adoption. We've been waiting for about 3 years to adopt a child. When my dad put the house on Zillow someone's wife wanted to buy it in 10 minutes. But the husband promised his wife a pool. So they didn't buy the house. There were a few others that I can't remember. But finally Melissa and Tim stepped up! They bought the house. We left March fifth. Tim and Melissa have a daughter named Brook. We are on March sixth now and we are enjoying our time at Poinsett State Park!

Lassen Volcanic National Park

We have officially entered the Pacific Ring of Fire. Well, we've technically been in it for the past few months while in California, but none of the parks we've been to have been related... until now. Starting with Lassen, we're about to hit multiple parks built around volcanos. Other than Mt. Saint Helens and that one in Hawaii that never stops, I would have been hard pressed to name another volcano that erupted in this country... ever. But sure enough, Mount Lassen erupted numerous times between 1915 and 1921, doing quite a bit of damage to the surrounding area (there is a section near the mountain called "the devastated area," which is humorous because it's all grown back and looks perfectly normal now). We've had remarkably good weather for our park days, but as you can probably tell from the picture above, that luck ran out at Lassen.
