Hard Rain Café (by Caleb)

After a long drive, we arrived at Hard Rain Café in Washington, a small restaurant which happened to have some RV sites at it.

The campground was a small one. It also had a bath house, a big field behind it, and a trail down to the Hoh River. We were in the second closest site to the road, but we later switched sites because there were trees blocking the Starlink dish. Once we got set up, dad, mom and Jordan walked to the Hoh River.

The next day, I hiked with Asher to the river.

The river was pretty fast moving and wide. Asher and I walked to a large pool beside the river and started damming it up. That pool had long strands of frog eggs in it. I went over to another pool and made a canal then dammed that one up. After awhile of working, we went and looked at each other's dam then started to head back.

That afternoon mom, Jordan, Asher, and I drove to Olympic NP. First we went to the Hoh Rainforest Visitor center. Then we walked the Hoh River Trail, which went to the same river as the one near our campground. The trail was a nice trail, but it wasn't a nice day, so that meant everything was wet. The river looked the same as at the campground. Asher and Jordan wandered off and I made leaf boats to sail down the river.

After awhile, we headed back to the car. On the way, we stopped at a giant tree that had fallen over and all its roots were showing. We stopped, took pictures and climbed it.

When we got back to the car, we headed back to the RV.

The next day, it rained. It misted then rained then misted then rained and so on. That night we all played the game I had designed and created for Jordan. It is called RV Life and was about owning an RV park. I was really glad when everyone liked it, because I had worked on it a lot and it had taken forever to make.

The next day, we had breakfast and then Jordan, Asher, and I played a game we made up. We pretended we were the king and queen's children and would sneak out to protect the kingdom. I'm Katy, Asher's Jasper, and Jordan's Ray. I also had a pet cobra named Coby in the game.

That night, we had a campfire. Before the campfire, dad had some packages delivered. Inside the boxes were new lighters to replace our old junky lighters. There were two torch lighters and two electric lighters. I had fun going around and torching things.

The next day, I finally got the Nintendo Switch that I had been saving up for for a long time! We set it up and I walked off to play a bunch of Mario Kart Eight.

It's not actually that dirty, the picture made it look like that.

That night We went to Olympic NP with dad.

We arrived at the the Visitor Center shortly after we passed through the entrance gate. It was a nice day and certainly a great day to be at a national park. First, we went on The Hall of Mosses trail. I don't know about a hall, but it certainly was mossy. There was moss on the rocks, on the trees, and on the ground. On the trail, we got to go under a tree arch.

After that trail, we went on another trail that went alongside the Hoh River. We didn't do the whole thing, because the trail was to a glacier and was thirty-six miles round-trip. When we got to the river we played a little bit then headed back.

The next day, we all went to Olympic NP again in the late morning.

After a longish drive, we arrived at the trail we were going to do. The trail was a short one to Sol Duc Falls, a waterfall which was on the Sol Duc River. The waterfall was really pretty and dropped down into a short narrow canyon.

We had lunch up steam from the waterfall. We played by the river. I made a dam but finished quickly when I found that the water was so terribly cold.

After that, we drove a long ways to Crescent Lake. We stopped and walked down to a dock and looked over the water for a little bit. We drove home after that.

The next day, we woke up, had breakfast, then drove to a beach in Olympic. We were going to go see a ranger talk there about the tide pools. When we got down to the beach, we let the ranger do her talk then Jordan and I ran off to some big rocks to do some tide-pooling.

Jordan and I ran around the giant rocks around to the back side where there was a field of rocks in the ocean with tons of things covering them. We made our way around and found plenty of sea stars, anemones, mussels, hermit crabs and snails.

We ran around the sand. We also got our junior ranger badges.
There was also this big rock half surrounded by water with a hole half way up it. I wanted to see inside so I climbed up and looked in. In the hole was a big open space that slanted on both sides to a sandy bottom and on one side it was all open to the wet side outside of the rock. And the walls were covered in anemones, star fish, snails, kelp, and plants. I thought that was cool.

After all that, I heard a four year old say, "Dad, look, a bald eagle!" And sure enough there was a bald eagle soaring across the sky! When we were all done, we drove back. We spent the rest of the day relaxing.

The next day, we packed up and left for Gust Backstrom RV Park.
