Soldotna, AK
In between Homer and Whittier, we stopped in Soldotna, AK. Michael tried so hard to give me a fishing trip here, but with windy water conditions and a lack of professionalism, it never panned out.
We stayed one night for free in the Fred Meyer parking lot. There was also free water fill-up and a dump stations. While we were there, we filled up our gas, propane and restocked our food. That night we watched an episode of the Chosen before bed.
The kids played some hillbilly golf, a rodeo horse toy and tether ball. Ben, a lifeguard that was helping with another camp using the facility, gave me directions. I asked for Amy at the office and she came out to welcome us. She is the camp cook and immediately brought us inside and started to feed us.
Everyone was so nice and welcoming. Amy took us on a tour of the camp including the horses for the horse camp, finding perfect mushrooms, and showing us the buoy swing by the outdoor wilderness camp.
Once our tour was over, Amy gave the kids more snacks and then one of the other leaders brought the kids to the obstacle coarse and mini golf area. They had a blast!
Amy and I got to talk and pray together! Amy and the rest of the staff let us bring the RV over for the night! Then she took Asher, Caleb and Jordan to the church across the street that was having bounce houses, BBQ and a Bible story. That was so nice and refreshing!
Michael and I had a date grilling our 2 silver salmon steaks together! Amy also introduced us to a couple that are a part of the SOWERS group which stands for Servants On Wheels Ever Ready. They were telling us how the ministry is composed of retired folks with RVs that drive to various places to serve however they can with various projects. That sounded like something Michael and I could do one day. It was very nice to talk with another couple!
